Assalamualaikum everyone, today I am going to share about my week 7 Sustainable Development class. The topic that has been taught by the lecturer is the role of Universities and sustainable development. Basically, it is about the responsibility of universities and its relationship with sustainable development. As we know, university is a place or institution where it provides high education to grant academic degrees. The main goal of an academic university is to offer high-quality education to young people. It is critical in educating the next generation about sustainability or 'sejahtera' and the broad range of social, economic, and environmental global problems that the world is currently confronted with. So, when students are getting high-quality education, they will full with creativity in solving the problems that come to their surroundings. Our lecturer also told about Dr. Razali Nawawi, the honorable speaker she met in one special Webinar. Dr. Razali Nawawi has loss his sight but he is an admirable and inspiring person where he owned a lot of knowledge and experiences about sustainability or 'Sejahtera'. 

They have a role to play in promoting the value of the Sustainable development goals and to fulfilling them through research, institutional culture and external leadership. 

Ways to advance Sustainable Development by the universities.

The benefits that universities gain if involving actively in Sustainable Development Goals:
  1. Building impactful and inclusive networks
  2. Reshaping incentives
  3. Preparing public-mindful leaders.
In term of community engagement for sustainability, our university, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) also has its own initiatives where to ensure the initiatives are continuous and consistent, IIUM comes forward with their own flagship projects.

Sejahtera Concept is a key for IIUM to encourage the sustainable development either in or outside the university.
