UNGS 1201 Section 29 First Class Thoughts
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
Hello and Ahlan Wasahlan to everyone who is reading my first blog ever right now! This blog actually exists to share, evaluate and summarize my experience and my thoughts of the UNGS 1201 first class or we can know this course as Sustainable Development: Issues, Policies and Practices.
Initially, let me introduce myself before we go onward. I'm Khairunnaim Zakaria and I'm a first year student of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). I'm from Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences and majoring in Sociology and Anthropology.
So, this course can be found at the International Islamic University of Malaysia and it is one of the university required courses here. Interesting right? I was very stunned after knowing that there is a course pertaining to sustainability and, obviously, it has an interconnection to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that were set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.

The first class was held last week on Friday, 12 March 2021. Like usual in the new norm of life, online classes have been conducted through Google Meet during this Covid-19 pandemic. The class started exactly at 4.00 p.m. until 6 p.m. Although this UNGS 1201 class was conducted in the evening, I was still motivated to join this exciting class. Basically, the lecturer started the class by introducing the course and also herself. So, Dr. Razinah is our lecturer for this Sustainable Development course. She was a very encouraging and consistent person with her powerful and clear voice during class even though the class duration was two hours! Then, she proceeded with the class by clarifying the course outline and assessments. Alhamdulillah! We were clear and pleased to understand her brief explanation before she began to teach the early topic of the course.
Dr. Razinah commenced the lecture and shared her very adorable introduction slide deck. The colorful group of slides with a rainbow background design, and also there were cute children and the other elements symbolizing the nature of a sustainable environment. We really appreciated Dr. Razinah as she conducted a very harmonized slide deck.

There were a lot of things that we learnt during the first class. We have been acquainting new concepts like the comparation between two types of thinking patterns, interceptor the river cleaning machine, brief introduction of sustainable development, the chronological order of the Sustainable Development Goals establishment and the results from the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.
The more interesting this course is when Dr. Razinah constantly provided many examples at every point of her lecture, either by herself or in the form of videos, images and others. There were also Hadiths and Quranic Ayah included in the lecture. Her examples were usually related to the very familiar information, sciences and ideas among people every day. This has made us more understand the lecture given. For example, Dr. Razinah explained about the land of Arabia which has returned to greenery and she also told us about Elon Musk's plan for Mars as he had predicted when the resources would be gone. Other than that, there is also a sharing session from one of the brothers in the class, which is from Muaz Faisal where he has shared about the flood event in Pahang experienced by himself.
So, that's all for the digest of the first UNGS 1201 class. Thank you for reading and see you in the next post!
Thank you Khairunnaim. Congratulations on your new blog. This a good sharing.
